A post office called Dunnell has been in operation since 1873. The city was named for Mark H. Dunnell, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota.
Dunnell has a bank to serve the residents. It is a branch office of the Trimont State Bank
In 1955 Tyler Williams and his wife Betty Lou purchased the Dunnell Locker Plant, and established Williams Meat Locker which they operated together for the next 43 years. They retired in 1998. He was recognized numerous times for his outstanding cured ham and bacon.
One has to wonder the marketing mileage this family owned butcher shop could have gotten out of the 1966 bacon champion title had it come in recent years wherein bacon’s popularity has exploded not to mention social media helping to spread the news.
